FM radio still #1 source of new music discovery
A study conducted by NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers) and the NPD Group (a marketing research company), which was published on Nov. 10, shows plain ol' terrestrial radio as the most relied upon resource for discovering new music. The study also "discovers," shall we say, "a need for more back announcing, since three out of four" respondents said they would also "shop more if there were more announcements revealing artist names and track titles." As Paul Resnikoff at Digital Music News puts it, "Radio is still a gigantic bullhorn, but also a fairly dumb one." Sure doesn't have to be.
